Skal Labissiere Cleared By NCAA To Play For Kentucky

Oct 23, 2015 8:07 PM

Skal Labissiere has been deemed eligible by the NCAA to play in the upcoming 2015-16 season for Kentucky.

Labissiere received paperwork clearance on Friday after the NCAA had investigated him for his relationship with his Memphis-based guardian Gerald Hamilton.

Labissiere is projected as a top-3 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

John Calipari has said he was unworried about Labissiere's eligibility ruling and expected him to play once the Wildcats started the season on Nov. 13.

Skal Labissiere Hasn't Been Cleared To Play For Kentucky

Oct 7, 2015 12:04 PM

Skal Labissiere has not been cleared to play by the NCAA to play for Kentucky, his guardian said on Wednesday.

Labissiere is expected to be one of the first three picks of the 2016 NBA Draft.

"Not yet," Labissiere's guardian, Gerald Hamilton, told ESPN. "We're just trying to get everything squared away. They are asking a few questions.

"They haven't cleared him, but we're sticking with our faith," he added. "There's no real concern about anything from the Kentucky compliance people."

When asked about the specific reason Labissiere has yet to be cleared, Hamilton told ESPN he did not wish to comment.

Multiple sources told ESPN that the NCAA was looking into Hamilton and his relationship with Labissiere, but Hamilton declined to comment on whether that was the holdup.

Wenyen Gabriel Commits To Kentucky

Oct 1, 2015 1:05 PM

Wenyen Gabriel, ranked No. 23 overall in the incoming class of 2016, has committed to Kentucky.

Gabriel had previously cut his list to Kentucky, Duke, Maryland, Connecticut and Providence.

"I felt a connection to all the coaches in my final five, but ultimately it came down to Duke and Kentucky," Gabriel said, "and I just felt like I couldn't go wrong either way."

Gabriel is more of a prototypical stretch-4 but even could see time at small forward at Kentucky.
